Richard D. “Dick” Lundberg, 91, lifelong Poplar, WI resident, died Thursday, April 21, 2011 in Ripon, WI.
He was born on October 21, 1919 in Poplar to William and Hulda (Jones) Lundberg.
Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II with Company M of the 135th Infantry Regiment, 34th (Red Bull) Division and fought in battles that included North Africa, Anzio, Monte Cassino, and Rome, Italy.
He married Dorothy Percival on November 28, 1949 in Superior, WI and celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage before she passed away on October 31, 2008.
Dick was employed at the Poplar Hardware for forty years before retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar, and the Bong Hofstedt American Legion Post #409.
He enjoyed volunteering and sharing his knowledge and stories at the Richare I. Bong Veteran's Historical Center in Superior.
Dick is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Gerald) Trochinski, Ripon, WI; five grandchildren, Eric (Jill) Trochinski, Heather (Allen) Phillips, Mark (Brooke) Trochinski, Christi (Andy) Flaker, and Craig Trochinski; four great-grandchildren, Cole and Alexis Trochinski and Nolan and Ethan Phillips; one brother, Robert (Irene) Lundberg, Barnes, WI; three sisters, Marion Olson, Poplar, Elsie Erbentraut, Poplar, Ruth (John) Nickaloff, California and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, Dick is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Willard, Gertrude, John, Norman, and Lorraine.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM and will continue until the 11:30 AM Funeral Service on Friday, April 29, 2011 in the Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar, WI. Pastor Greg Gullicksrud will officiate.
Interment will be in the Poplar Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the Bong-Hofstedt American Legion Post #409.
Memorials may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar or the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center in Superior.
