Richard D. Rusch

Richard D. “Dick” Rusch, 90, lifelong resident of Duluth, MN, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

He was born in Duluth on June 22, 1934, the son of William “Pat” and Ellen (Miller) Rusch.

Dick served his country honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW #15024.

He worked as a school bus driver and glazer for the Duluth School District #709, retiring after many years of dedicated service.

Dick was united in marriage to Violet Sojka in 1960 and they celebrated fifty-six years of marriage before her passing in 2016.

Dick’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He loved dinners together at Dreamland Supper Club, and he and Vi never missed a sporting event that their grandchildren participated in.

He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Patricia “Patty” (Dennis) Johnson, Superior, WI; stepson, Robert “Bob” (Mechelle LaBelle) Stanford Jr., Superior, WI; grandchildren, Michael Ziegler Sr., Duluth, MN, Joshua Johnson (Katie Parks), Hoyt Lakes, MN, Alexis Johnson (Kyler Moss), Oliver, WI, his sister, Jacquelyn Larson, North Branch, MN, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Violet and their great-grandson, Michael Ziegler Jr.; brothers, Kenton (Kenny) and William (Bill) Rusch, and his parents.

Per Dick’s wishes, no public services will be held, the family will gather at a later date for a private event.
