Richard W. "Rick" Strand

Richard W ”Rick” Strand, 56, Superior, died Friday, January 21, 2011 in the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN.

He was born on October 13, 1954 in Shell Lake, WI to Harold and Lois (Kanzler) Strand.

He received an Associate Degree from the Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in Auto Mechanics.

Richard was employed with Superior Water Light and Power for over twenty-five years.

He married Jamie Hansen on September 20, 1980 and they celebrated thirty years of marriage.

Richard was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, coaching soccer for the YMCA and coaching football for Cathedral School.

In addition to his wife Jamie; Richard is survived by two sons, Andrew (Amanda) Strand, Duluth, MN, Adam Strand, Superior; his father-in-law , James (Ruth) Hansen, Duluth; two sisters, Marlys (James) Pederson, Poplar, WI, Karen (Patrick) Stark, Superior; one sister-in-law, Kellie (John) Lund, White Bear Lake, MN; two brothers-in-law, Todd Hansen, Menomonie, WI, Timothy Hansen, Superior and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Annalea Hansen.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 27, 2011 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home and will continue at 10:00 AM Friday until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass in Cathedral of Christ the King. Fr. Andrew Ricci will be celebrant.

Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Rick’s family would like to thank the staff at Solvay Hospice House, Essentia Home Hospice Care and Essentia Oncology Department for the great care and compassion they showed Rick.
