Robert “Bob” K. Bergsten, 72, a proud lifetime resident of Poplar, WI, died in his home of natural causes on Wednesday, March 2, 2011.
He was born on April 9, 1938 in Superior to Walde and Gertrude (Lundberg) Bergsten.
He Married Dianna Teal on May 15, 1965 in Superior and celebrated forty-five years of marriage.
Bob’s employment history includes logging, the steel plant in Duluth, Twin Ports Creamery and then Dahlberg Light and Power for thirty-five years, retiring in 2001.
Bob was also a member of the Duluth Air National Guard for eight years.
He was a member of the Poplar Village Board and was currently serving as president.
He was the current sexton at the Poplar Cemetery, a member of the Poplar Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the EAA Warbirds Association, a former member of the Douglas County Rescue Squad, a lifetime member of the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center and the NRA.
Some of Bob’s interests included beef cattle farming, music, traveling, hunting; family history and attending the EAA Fly-In at Oshkosh, WI which he attended every year since 1980.
He was known in the neighborhood as “John Deere Bob”.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Dianna; daughter, Sheri Bergsten, Poplar; four brothers, Charles (Janice) Bergsten, Daniel (Dorothy) Bergsten, Steve (Bonnie) Bergsten and Bruce (Donna) Bergsten, all of Poplar; one sister, Betty Wood, Michigan, many nieces and nephews, the “son of his heart”, Frank Hietala, Poplar; his neighborhood farming friends and his daily “round table” lunch buddies at Mother’s Kitchen.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM until the 4:00 PM Funeral Service on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Mission Covenant Church in Poplar with Pastor Darrell Nelson, officiating.
Burial will be in the Poplar Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service will be Tom Peterson, Virgil Nelson, Jack Lundberg, Ken Lundberg, David Peterson and Gerald Lozon. Honorary Pallbearer will be Jim Anderson.
