Robert Bernard Anderson, 85 was born on April 29, 1924 in Superior to Alma (Bergesen) and Adolph Anderson. He died peacefully on December 13, 2009.
Bob attended Erickson Elementary School and Central High School. He worked for Butler Shipyards prior to serving his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the LST 325 during World War II.
On August 21, 1948 he married Irene Sitek. They owned and operated the Belknap Grocery Store for seven years. Bob also worked at Superior Water, Light and Power Company, retiring after thirty-nine years. Bob and Irene recently celebrated sixty-one years of marriage.
Bob was a huge Green Bay Packer fan, and enjoyed traveling to see family. However, his true enjoyment came from spending time with family and friends at his lake home near Barnes, Wisconsin.
Bob was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Wisconsin LST 325 Association affiliated with the U.S. Navy, and the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, Irene; Bob is survived by four daughters, Judith (Randolph) During, Elk River, MN, Beverlee (Steven) Polzin, Lutz, FL, Roberta (Robert) Wahlquist, Oak Grove, MN, and Paula (Todd) Larkee, Apple Valley, MN; one son, Michael Anderson, Superior; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Jeremy, Laura, Andrea, Sara, Katelynn, Trevor and Jordan; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bertel Anderson and a grandson, Daniel Wahlquist.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM Friday, December 18, 2009 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 PM. Rev. Fathers James Tobolski and Daniel Dahlberg will be concelebrants. Private interment will be held in the Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Bob's name to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or Cathedral School.
