Robert "Bob" J. Baillie

February 11, 1929 — January 12, 2019

Robert “Bob” J. Baillie, 89, longtime Brule, WI area resident, died Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Encompass Assisted Living in Superior, WI. He was born on February 11, 1929 in Superior, WI to Alexander and Ida (Follis) Baillie.

Bob grew up in Brule, WI along with his brother, Don. The two of them and cousin, Billy had great times roaming the farm, fields, woods and river. There are many pictures of them hunting and fishing. Bob graduated from Iron River High School in 1947. He joined the United States Army and was stationed in Texas, Indiana and Germany. He married Ruth Heino on September 15, 1950 and celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage.

On returning home, Bob joined his father and brother in the family business, Baillie Oil Co., and eventually he and his brother assumed ownership with Bob retiring after many years of service.  In addition to the oil company, Bob and Ruth owned the Brule River Cabin Court which they also expanded into an RV park. After retiring, Bob continued doing small jobs with his tractor and backhoe, logging, plowing snow and digging holes.

He was a member of the Brule Presbyterian Church, Brule Lions Club, Brule River Sportsman Club, Superior Elks Lodge #403 and the Waino Riders Snowmobile Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and in his younger years loved hunting and fishing. Later his passion turned to snowmobiling and four-wheeling. Bob and Ruth enjoyed camping in their RV and traveling with friends and family (especially the grandkids), plus entertaining in the brown and orange “party bus”. Bob loved to dance. There weren’t many weekends that you couldn’t find him and Ruth waiting for the music to start.

Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth; one daughter, Marlene Lawton, Scottsdale, AZ; four sons, Mark (Becky) Baillie and Dean (Cindy Colby) Baillie, both of Brule, WI, Neil (Diane Dau) Baillie, Lakeville, MN and Bill (Nadine Lohman) Baillie, Superior, WI; eight grandchildren, Robert “Bob” Baillie, Candace Vee, Alexandra Haskins, Kelly Russell, Kirsten Larsen, Troy Lawton,  Alicia Baillie and Nathan Martin Hanson and  nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald  Baillie, Brule, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Ruth.
