Robert J. “Bob” Hanson, 81, died Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Lighthouse of Superior.
He was born July 25, 1930, to Bernard and Ruth (Jorgenson) Hanson in Hayward, WI and graduated from high school there.
He began his college education at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and subsequently enlisted in the Air Force, serving in Fort Worth as a teletype operator during the Korean Conflict.
He returned to Hayward and married Prudence E. “Prudy” Tart. They moved to Superior where he continued his education. Bob completed a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where he was admitted into the Beta Alpha Psi fraternity.
The later 1950s brought Bob and his family back to Hayward, where he and his brother, Clifford, formed the accounting partnership of Hanson & Hanson. During that time, he served as President of the Hayward Chamber of Commerce.
In 1967, Bob moved to Superior to help create the public accounting firm of Hanson, Milroy, & Hanson. That firm grew to a partnership with Broker-Hendrickson. In the early 1980s, Bob opened his own practice in the Board of Trade Building, retiring at the age of 75 in 2005.
Bob was active in the Superior Elks Lodge, serving in every leadership position, including Exalted Ruler. He was a fifty-year member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He served as treasurer for the Ace Investment Club for many years. He was a long-time member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he served as treasurer. He also maintained membership in the Masons, the Shriners, and the Rotary Club for a short period.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards, and family get-togethers.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Prudy (in 2001); brothers, Marvin and Clifford; sister, Bernice.
He is survived by his children: Roberta (Frank) Dumonsau and Carol (Daniel) Gucinski of Superior, Amy (Bradley) Hinz of Farmington, MN, and Brian (Debora) Hanson of Hayward, WI; grandchildren: Dan, John & Joel Dumonsau, Robin Hanson, Mark (Annie) & Beth Gucinski, and Katherine (Missa) Hinz-Lara, Jessica & Emily Hinz; Great-grandchildren: Jaden & Evan Lara, Skylar Hinz, and Henry Gucinski. He is further survived by his brother, Kenneth (Carol) Hanson, Scottsdale, AZ; sisters-in-law, Carol LaBarre, Marty Haugen and Ruth Poppe, Hayward, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends their thanks to the staff of Lighthouse of Superior and the Fresenius Dialysis Unit in Superior.
A memorial service will be held at the Superior Elks Lodge on Friday, July 13, at 7 p.m., with visitation beginning at 6 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m., with visitation at the church 1 hour prior to the service with Pastor Charles Plaster, officiating.
Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Superior Elks Lodge building fund, Concordia Lutheran Church or the Fresenius Dialysis Unit in Superior.
