Robert T. Hughes Sr., 84, lifelong Superior resident, passed away Tuesday, January 31 st . He was born in Superior January 1, 1939, the son of Charles and Eva (Wassenhove) Hughes.
He graduated from East High School in 1957. He worked for the State of Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection as a grain inspector and Agricultural Supervisor for over 36 years.
On October 22, 1962, Robert took Janet Wenske to the family cabin on Lake Ruth in Iron River to propose. They were married on August 17, 1963 and celebrated over 55 years of marriage.
Some of his favorite pastimes were spent visiting with family at the cabin and feeding the bluegills. He hosted the annual 4 th of July cookout and afterward enjoyed presenting the champion’s trophy to the winner of the H.O.R.S.E. tournament. Weekday mornings were spent with the “Coffee Bobs” at Julie’s. Sunday morning breakfast after church was a must and he loved telling each of his grandkids they were his favorite, with a grin.
He is survived by his children, Rob (Tenley), Matt (Toni Marie), Jennifer, Stephen (Laura), Adam (Nicole); grandchildren, Rachael (James), Greta (Jay), Griffith, Emma, Ashley (Anthony), Alexandria, Mackenzie (James), Madison, Ryan, Devin, London (Taylor), Fletcher, Triphon; great-grandchildren, Beckham, Ariana, Sylvia, Asher, and Penelope; sister, Patricia (Robert) McLoone; sisters-in-law, Katie Nekola and Pat Wenske; many nieces and nephews, and his “Blood Brother”, Jack Milroy.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet; his parents; brother, George, and in-laws, Jeanne, Fran, and Wayne.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 4, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2316 E. 4 th Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as celebrant.
Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery.
