Robert L. Jardine

October 18, 1933 — September 17, 2024

Robert LeRoy Jardine, long time Superior resident, passed away on September 17, 2024 at St Mary’s Hospital in Superior, WI. He was born the son of Hugo and Lydia (Bjur) Jardine on October 18, 1933 in Port Wing, WI. He attended and graduated from South Shore School.

Robert proudly served his country in the Air Force for 22 years as a missile guidance technician and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1974. He was also in the Merchant Marines for 16 years as a navigation/communication officer and traveled all over the world including the Arctic and Antarctica. He was proud of the fact that in 16 years, he only felt a little queasy once in very rough seas. He was a member of VFW American Legion and served in the color guard.

He was married to Janet Tyler from Cornucopia for 26 years and had three children with her. After their divorce, he married Sue Frank and adopted her son, Rusty. They lived in Auburn, Indiana until her passing 20 years after marriage in 2003. He married Nelda Jarvis Mayo and they celebrated 15 years together until her passing in March 2024.

Bob was a loving and involved father with his children, always happy for their company in whatever he was doing, which included camping, fishing, hunting and making fishing lures. He greatly enjoyed teasing and was a good natured and friendly man who enjoyed interacting with other people. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Superior and sang in the church choir. His voice could also be heard on the airwaves as he was a ham radio operator, call numbers WB9QAC.

Robert is survived by his children, Michelle Jardine, Ashland, WI, Patrick (JoAnn) Jardine, Superior, Douglas (Tracey) Jardine, Cornucopia, WI, and Russell (Crystal) Jardine, Auburn, IN; stepdaughters: Laura (Jerald) Hjelmstad, Bismarck, ND and Linda (Robert) Kjonaas, Bismarck, ND; stepsons: Randall Mayo, O’Fallon, IL, Daniel (Rose) Mayo, Bismarck, ND and Douglas (Lisa) Mayo, Malvern, IA; grandchildren: Benjamin (Marissa) Tokarczyk, Jeffrey (Annie) Tokarczyk, Daniel (Chelse) Tokarczyk, Jessica (Jacob) Sorensen, David Jardine (Taylor Miner), Rachel (Airek) Provost, Mackenzie Jardine, Alexander Jardine, Nicholas Jardine, Sebastian Jardine, Kendall Jardine, and Riley Jardine; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Grace Shuga, FL, and Lois Hagen, FL, brothers Kenneth “Bucky” (Faye) Jardine, Port Wing, WI and Bruce (Nancy) Jardine, FL.
