Robert “Bobby” Allen Johnson, 74, lifelong Lakeside, WI, area resident died Friday, March 16, 2018 at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Range, WI surrounded by his family. He was born on August 8, 1943 in Duluth, MN, the son of Harvey and Helen (Winkka) Johnson.
Bob graduated from Northwestern High School in 1962 and from Wisconsin Indianhead Technical Institute for welding and drafting. In 1962, he started working for the American Motors Company in Kenosha, WI starting in the motor test department then to final assemblyman and was promoted to relief man. He moved to Superior and went on to work for the State of Wisconsin Highway Department as a Surveyors Aide I, Tomco Studs Lumber Company where he started on construction, fabricating and setting up equipment when the mill opened and advanced to millwright and foreman, and Superior Steel Building as the lead man on afternoon shift, welding, fabricating and blue print reading. In 1968, he started working at JR Jensen as a laborer then to heavy equipment and concrete pump operator and in need of steadier employment started working for the Town of Lakeside as a heavy equipment operator for many years and he took great pride working for the people of Lakeside.Bob was a member of the Local Operators Union Local #139; Moose Club 606 in Superior; and Four Seasons Recreation Club in Wascott, WI. Bob loved hunting, golfing, fishing, bowling, camping, four wheeling and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He also liked the Green Bay Packers and doodling art. He attended Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar.
Bob is survived by his wife Kathryn of fifty-three years; one son, Kevin (Lisa) Johnson, South Range, WI; one daughter, Renee (Jeff) Priem, South Range, WI; seven grandchildren, Jeffery, Trevor, Bryce, Laina, Layla, Stephanie and Jack; two great-grandchildren, Dawson and Bella; one brother, Roger Johnson, South Range, WI; one sister, Cheryl (Scott) Haworth, Hawthorne, WI; sister-in-law, Arlene (Jim) Erickson; brother-in-law, Allan “Skip” (Becky) Jones, South Range, WI; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Johnson; and his parents.
Visitation will began at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church, in Poplar, WI and continue until the 12:30 PM funeral service with Pastor Donna Rutten officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
