Robert E. Meteraud, 91, lifelong Superior area resident died Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, Minnesota.
He was born in Superior on June 21, 1920, the son of Eugene and Mae (Clough) Meteraud.
Robert married Helen Granheim, December 30, 1941. Helen passed away on May 18, 2000 after fifty-eight years of marriage.
He was a member of the Superior Elk’s Lodge #403 and the Superior VFW.
Robert served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was part of the landing at Omaha Beach.
Robert was employed by the Wisconsin Grain Commission as a Grain Inspector for over twenty-five years before retiring in 1983.
Robert was a devoted father and grandfather.
He was an avid Packer Fan, and he enjoyed Golf, Bowling and morning coffee with his friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Carole (Steve Free) Austin, Reno, Nevada and Roberta (Peter) Salnick, Sr., Superior; one son, Bob (Julie) Meteraud, Superior; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his wife Helen he was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service on Thursday, September 8, 2011 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Pastor Sarah Kerkes of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Superior
Pallbearer for the service will be Peter Salnick, Sr., Peter Salnick, Jr., Tom Woldmoe, Jacob Sekelsky, Josh Howen and Jared Howen.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Solvay Hospice House and staff for their compassionate care of Robert and to St. Mary’s Essentia Health Home Hospice for their care of Robert at his home.
