Robert “Bob” Nelson, 73, lifelong area resident, died peacefully, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Aspen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hawthorne, WI.
He was born in Superior, WI on February 1, 1950, the son of Marvin and Vivian (Bjork) Nelson.
He attended school in Superior and went on to W.I.T.C. and Lake Superior College where he earned his CNA and pursued his LPN degree.
After the death of his father, Bob enlisted to serve his country honorably in the United States Army. He served 2 tours in Vietnam where he earned a Purple Heart. He was also stationed in Germany and was very proud to be an active wartime veteran.
After his military service, Bob had many different occupations. He worked with his cousin Freddy drilling wells, among other things. He had also been a security guard for Twin Ports Grocery and worked at Advanced Datacom until his health issues required him to retire. He really enjoyed his time and his coworkers at Advanced Datacom!
Bob will always be remembered for his great sense of humor. He had a new joke every time you saw him and some of them were even clean! He enjoyed watching sports and old westerns. Above all, Bob was a loving brother, uncle and friend who will be dearly missed by his sisters, Sherry Kenville, Superior, WI, Judy Estridge, Wylie, TX, Sandy (Terry) Essen, Solon Springs, WI, and Terri (Brad) Nelson, Highland, WI; his brother, Mike (Carol) Nelson, South Range, WI, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, David Nelson.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Aspen Health and Rehab. The wonderful love and care they showed Bob made his stay there easier. Many of them were like family to him.
The family would also like to acknowledge some of the CNA’s that cared for Bob during his time at Twin Ports Health that remained close with him. Lisa Robinson, Michelle Carlson, Erin Dahlgren, Kalen Griffith, and Allyscia Palomo made sure to stay in touch and even visited him after he moved to Aspen. They will be recognized as his Honorary Pallbearers. Thank you!
A Time of Remembrance and Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street in Superior.
