Robert Allan Parsons 76, of Poplar, WI, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior after a long battle with a rare brain disorder, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
Bob was born on December 9, 1938 In Englewood, NJ to R. Dewitt and Helen (Morton) Parsons and grew up in Demarest, NJ. He graduated from Tenafly, New Jersey High School. He has a BA Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Bob served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964 and was honorably discharged as an airman first class.
He married Althea Bloom on August 29, 1964 at the Mission Covenant Church in Poplar, WI and they celebrated their 51 st anniversary.
Bob worked in the drafting and transportation field for various firms in the Twin Ports including Duluth Avionics, Clyde Iron and several trucking companies. He also taught transportation management at WITC Superior and DBU in Duluth.
Bob also worked in the transportation department at Jeno’s in Duluth.
In retirement he worked part time for Carr’s Hobbies in Duluth.
Bob was a lifetime member of the Duluth-Superior Transportation Association and he edited the monthly newsletter, “The Headlight”.
He attended Mission Covenant Church and the church services at Villa-Marina.
His hobbies included railroads, both riding and watching, model railroading, genealogy, photography, travel and reading.
In addition to his loving wife Althea, Bob is survived by a sister, Martha (Al) Mayeu; a brother, Don (Lee) Parsons; nephews, Chris (Sara) Mayeu, Ethan (Jennifer) Mayeu; his nieces, Holly Parsons, Lauri Halli and Linda (Mark) Howitz; his great nephew, Conner Mayeu; his great-nieces, Catherine Mayeu, Cavie Mayeu, Rebekah Howitz, Sarah Howitz; his sister-in-law, Janice Halli and his god daughter, Alexandra Prill.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, R. D. and Helen Parsons; his step mother, Eva Parsons; brother-in-law, Lee Halli and his in-laws, Aaron and Edith Bloom.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM , Saturday, November 28, 2015 in Mission Covenant Church in Poplar and continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service with Pastor Darrell Nelson, officiating.
Burial will be in the Poplar Cemetery.
