Roderic I. "Rod" Thompson

September 3, 1927 — June 21, 2015

Reverend Roderic I. “Rod” Thompson, 87, formerly of Superior passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Proctor, MN. He was born on September 3, 1927 in Superior to Ingvald and Esther (Melster) Thompson.

He graduated from the former Central High School. He went on to graduate from UWS with a History Degree and then he graduated from Seminary School at Bethel College.

Rod served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was with the North American Baptist General Conference for many years serving as Pastor and interim Pastor in 34 churches. His last pastorate was at the Dorchester Drive Baptist Church in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Rod married Donelda “Nel” Hoover on May 25, 1957 and celebrated 57 of marriage.

The most important thing his life was his relationship with this Lord and Savior.

He enjoyed history, sports and classical music.

In addition to his wife Nel, Rod is survived by four children, Mark (Carol) Thompson, Ann Arbor, MI, Ok Boon Kim, Arizona, Scott (Susan) Thompson, Duluth, MN Tina Thompson, St. Cloud, MN; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, a sister, Phyllis Lamaere and a brother, John Thompson.

Vistation will begin at 10:00 am and will continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Pastor Bruce Baillie, officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior where military honors will be accorded by the Duluth Combine Honor Guard.

Pallbearers for the service will be Johnathan Thompson, Travis Thompson, Cody Thompson and Tony Munoz.

Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
