Roger L. Bare

October 12, 1942 — March 19, 2013

Roger L. Bare, 70, Superior, died unexpectedly in his home on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. He was born on October 12, 1942 in Beloit, WI to Carl and Genevieve (Abrahamson) Bare.

Roger grew up in Rockford, IL and graduated from Rockford West High School in 1960. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller before his discharge in 1964. He then graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1968 with a degree in Education. He furthered his education at Whitewater to receive his Master’s Degree in 1971.
Roger taught in Racine, WI for 5 ½ years, was principal in Sparta for 5 years and in 1978 he received his specialist in education administration in Winona, MN. He then was principal in Wisconsin Dells for 8 years before moving to Superior in 1986.

After moving to Superior he became principal at Pattison Elementary School, Four Corners Elementary School and Central Middle School before retiring in 1999.

Roger married Margaret “Maggie” Nickels on June 13, 1970 and celebrated 42 years of marriage.

He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and the church choir, the Optimist Club, the Superior Area Retired Educators and the Superior Singers.

He enjoyed singing, golfing and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

In addition to his wife Maggie, Roger is survived by two daughters, Erin (Paul) Vaara, Gordon, WI, Carolyn (Matthew Mason) Bare, Brainerd, MN; two granddaughters, Annika and Zoey Vaara; three brothers, Ronald (Sharon) Bare and Raymond (Fannie) Bare, both of Rockford, IL, Russell (Susan) Bare, Fair Oakes, CA and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Bare.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 12 Noon Memorial Service on Monday, March 25, 2013 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church with Pastor Will
Mowchan, officiating.

Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church for the High School Mission Trip Fund.
