Rolf B. Thompson, 90, Superior resident, died Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born on May 18, 1926 in Stavanger, Norway to Peter and Sigrid (Eike) Thompson.
Rolf served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
He worked for the United States Post Office as a letter carrier for over thirty-five years of service.
Rolf married Margaret Gucinski on June 23, 1956 and celebrated sixty years of marriage.
He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and a former member of Concordia Lutheran Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Ted Thompson.
Rolf is survived by his wife, Margaret, Superior, WI; two sons, Michael (Paula Engen) Thompson, Duluth, MN and Scott Thompson, Burnsville, MN; one grandson, Christopher Thompson, Superior, WI; one sister, May Doucette, Superior, WI and sisters-in-law, Lois Thompson-Aspdahl and Lucille Machones, both of Superior and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital third floor east for their wonderful care.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior and continue until the 7:00 PM memorial service with Pastor Michelle Rowell of Concordia Lutheran Church and Rev. Fr. James Tobolski of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church officiating.
