The world lost a gentle-hearted man on Sunday, July 10, 2016 when Ronald D. Covington entered his final resting place. Ron was born January 3, 1941 in Kenosha, WI to his loving parents, Delmar “Todd” Covington and Clara “Marie” Covington (Amborn.) He graduated from Bradford High School in Kenosha, WI and stayed in the area to work for American Motors and Chrysler Motors for over thirty years before retiring in 1989. He was a proud member of the UAW Local #72.
On July 15, 1986, he married Nancy Van Overmeiren in Crandon, WI and celebrated 30 years of marriage living out their vows, “For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, and till death do us part.”
Ron took solace and found joy in the simple things in life – walking outdoors, playing cards, listening to music from the “Oldies but Goodies” era, drafting a hand-written letter, reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee, chatting with a friend (or starting up a conversation with a stranger), and cheering on his favorite sports teams – the Cubs, Bronco’s and Colts. In his prime, he was someone to watch out for on the baseball field and at the billaird table. He had a laugh that was contagious, one of the most sincere and loving hugs and a tender heart that won the love of many.
His legacy lives on and is forever loved by those he left behind: Wife, Nancy, Superior, WI; daughter, Michelle (Kevin) Samuelson, Evansville, WI; son, Todd Covington, Kenosha, WI; step-sons, Donald Page, Seattle, WA and Scott (Shanon)Page, Kenosha, WI; granddaughters, Alicia (Jordan) Truax, Allison Covington, Amya Covington, Mikayla Samuelson, Ella Samuelson and Elaina Samuelson; step-granddaughter, Liberty Page; great-grandchildren, Ariana Ross and Canyon Truax; sisters, Sandra Horning, Atlanta, GA and Cheryl Covington, Paddock Lake, WI; brother, Vernon Covington, Hales Corners, WI; the Van Overmeiren in-laws, several nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly.
He will be re-united with his beloved infant son (Todd’s twin brother), mother, father, step-mother, Ruth Covington, and step-father , Edwin “Moonie” Jepson.
Per Ron’s wishes, no public service will be held. To honor Ron, simply strike up a conversation with a perfect stranger, gather a few friends and play cards, pop open an Old Style and toast him, dance to an “oldie but goodie” classic, be a Cubby fan for a day, enjoy a little baseball or billiards with a friend, and take the time to write a hand-written letter to someone you love.
