Ronald "Hogie" Hogan

October 5, 1934 — October 22, 2016

Ronald “Hogie” Hogan, 82, longtime resident of Superior, Villages of Florida and Barnes, WI, died on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Duluth, MN. He was born on October 5, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN to Robert and Viola Hogan. He grew up in Kerrick, MN and moved to Superior when he was 12.

Ron attended Cathedral School where he was active in boxing and later became a member of the Superior Amateur Boxing Association. Ron served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Vulcan from 1956-58, where he started his barbering career. He continued at John DeBrock’s in East End, Red Dahl at 1813 Belknap, then on to Ron & Jack’s Androy Barber Shop on Tower Ave. He worked on several railroads, eventually retiring from the DWP/CN RR in 1998, after forty-four years of total service. He was the owner of Jardine’s Resort in Port Wing, WI and also Hogie’s bar, formerly Kolanek’s in the 70’s, and now the Dugout.

Hogie enjoyed his Harley, stock car racing and skydiving. In his later years he replaced them with camping, RVing and traveling throughout the country with his wife and soulmate “Rook”. His infectious laughter and Irish wit, combined with his love and compassion for all, especially dogs, and deep faith in Jesus Christ made him a friend to all! Hogie’s favorite greeting was “Give me five for friendship”! He is up in heaven beside his Savior Jesus, “keeping the light on” for his beloved family and many dear friends.

He is survived by his wife Joan (Rookey); brother, Richard (Isabelle) Hogan; daughters, Tracy Thompson, Kelly (Allen Voss) Hogan and Katie Hogan; son, Jim (Angela) Hogan; granddaughters, Holly Thompson, Jessica Voss, India Davidson and Annabella Marie Hogan; grandsons, Sam Voss, Rhett Hogan and great-grandson, Austin Lee Thompson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gloria; brother, USAF Col. Robert “Clayt” Hogan, and son Timothy.

Per Ron’s wishes, a private family celebration of his new eternal life will be held at a later date. Alleluia! An additional celebration of Ron’s life for all family and friends will be held at a later date. “Yabba Dabba Doo!”
