Rosemary Caven

September 1, 1926 — May 31, 2020

Rosemary Caven, 93, formerly of Lake Nebagamon passed away on May 31, 2020. She was born September 1, 1926 in Finlayson, MN to the late Frederick and Mae (Dosch) Manske. She grew up in Crosby Beach, MN and was the valedictorian of the Crosby-Ironton High School class of 1944.

Following her high school graduation, Rosemary went to Telegrapher’s School with the Northern Pacific Railway and, beginning as an Agent/Telegrapher, embarked on a railroad career that lasted 42 years until her retirement, and took her on exciting job adventures throughout Minnesota, North Dakota and Northern Wisconsin.

She married the late Roy Caven on August 11, 1949 and they celebrated 51 years of marriage before his death on September 14, 2000.

She was a member of St Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lake Nebagamon for over 55 years, and was very active in the Altar Society.

She was an avid reader and had many other interests such as painting, drawing, wild flower photography, knitting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was also known for her delicious pies. Rosemary was strong-willed and always stood up for her beliefs. Although she was outspoken and sometimes even blunt, she had a kind heart and a soft spot for the underdog, making generous contributions to the causes she believed in, from the food shelf to animal rescue, political issues and homelessness.

Rosemary is survived by two sons, Timothy (Marcia) Caven of Brule, WI, and Jeffrey (Thu) Caven of Kokomo, IN, and a daughter, Jeanine Buck of Duluth, MN, seven grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Rosemary was preceded in death by her brothers Charles, Fred, Roy, Bert, Robert and Donald and her sisters Florence Fuller, Bernadette Taylor and Frances “Toots” Lovsted. Rosemary was the last of her siblings.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 18 th at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lake Nebagamon, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.

Interment will be in the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Brule, WI, a short distance from the railroad tracks where she and Roy made their wedding plans, long ago.
