Roy V. Peterson

Roy V. Peterson, 92, lifelong South Range, WI resident, died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Superior Rehabilitation Center in Superior, WI.  He was born on January 25, 1928 in Superior, WI to Dan and Hansina (Guttelvik) Peterson.

He graduated from the former Central High School in Superior, class of 1945.

Roy served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He worked as a crane operator/operating engineer, retiring from Fraser Shipyards after many years of service.

He married Marie Olavson on September 20, 1952, and they celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage before his passing.

Roy was the former Town Chairman for the Town of Oakland. He was a member of the Sons of Norway, Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary, Concordia Lutheran Church, AAD Shriners; was a 32 ^nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Acacia Itasca Masonic Lodge and the Superior Shrine Club.

Roy is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Steve (Janine) Peterson, Chippewa Falls, WI, Brian Peterson, Gibsonton, FL, Cindy Peterson, Superior, WI, Beth (Scott) Nelson, Duluth, MN and Jim (Jeanine) Peterson, South Range, WI; grandchildren, Tracy Hochrein, Kathy (Roger) Childs, Anita (Mark) McDonald, Kiara Peterson, Bethany (Michael) Grey, Joe Peterson, Justin, Erik, and Katherine Nelson, and Sasha and Kylie Peterson; great-grandchildren, Casey (Katrianna), Sam, and Gabe Hochrein, Lily, Zander, and Matthew McDonald, and Peyton and Jordan Nelson; and nephews, Don (Dawn) and Dick (Char) Peterson, Doug (Evelyn Hobbs) Peterson, and Tom Steele.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Hansina Peterson; brothers, Edward, Daniel and Walter Peterson; niece, Susan Peterson Steele; grandson, Aaron Casey Hochrein; and great-great-grandson, Jack Hochrein.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Riverside Cemetery in Superior. Pastor Michelle Rowell of Concordia Lutheran Church will officiate. A Celebration of Roy’s Life will follow from 1:00 – 4:00 PM PM at the Oakland Town Hall, 6152 S. County Road K, South Range.
