Rudy W. Lind, 85, Brule, WI, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on December 21, 1930 in Oulu, WI to Andrew and Mary (Rahkonen) Lind.

Rudy graduated from South Shore High School in 1949 after which he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving a 3 year 6 month tour of duty during the Korean War. He worked as an aircraft woodworker, was honorably discharged at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, AZ on December 6, 1952.

He sailed on the Great Lakes for Buckeye Steamship Company for a short time. He hired out to Hamilton, Smith and Beck Co. in 1953 working as a plumber and well driller during construction of the Keflavick Airport in Iceland.

Rudy married Elizabeth Root from Ashland, WI on May 21, 1955 and celebrated 43 years of marriage before her passing. They purchased the Andrew Lind farm in Oulu WI where they raised five children. He was co-owner of the Dining Room restaurant in Iron River and later the Twin Gables restaurant in Brule with his wife Betty.

He was a longshoreman working through I.L.A. Local 1366 in Duluth and Ceres Incorporated, retiring in 1988.

Rudy enjoyed most sports such as the Packers, Brewers, Badgers, the South Shore Cardinals and the Oulu Blue Jays. He especially enjoyed his woodworking and his repair shop.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Oulu, the Brule River Lions Club, the South Shore Sportsman Club and the Gitchee Gumee 4-H Club of Bayfield County.

Rudy is survived by three daughters, Linda (Joe) Nelle, Pahrump, Nevada, Diane Lind, Superior, Anne (Tim) Grimsrud, Superior; two sons, Russell (Marni) Lind, Maple, Donald (Christie) Lind, Perryville, MO; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Kimberly, Kari, Rebecca, Ryan, Emily, Nicholas and Briana; nine great-grandchildren, Camryn, Weston, Kaiden, Eddie, Jaxon, Axel, Myla, Molly and Harper; one sister, Martha Olson, Tacoma, WA, one brother, Lauri Lind, St. Paul, MN and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Elizabeth, Rudy is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Tyyne Lehto and Aune Takala and five brothers, Reino, Robert, Eino, Arnold and Arvid Lind.

Visitation will begin at 12 Noon and will continue until the 2:00 PM Memorial Service on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Church in Oulu with Pastor Scott Stai, officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Glade Cemetery in Oulu at a later date.
