Russell C. Carlson, 91, died Friday, May 9, 2009 at Golden Oaks Advanced Assisted Living, Hermantown, Minnesota.
He was born in Duluth, Minnesota on April 14, 1918 to Oscar and Julia Carlson.
He graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School in 1937.
He served in the United States Navy as a Seabee from 1941-1945.
Russell was employed as a cabinet maker for Baxter Company for 25 years and then worked for the University of Minnesota, Duluth in the Plant Services department until retirement.
Russell was a woodworking craftsman. He enjoyed camping and fishing.
He married Lillian M. Iverson in 1947 and celebrated sixty-one years of marriage before she passed away on July 7, 2008.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Carlson, Duluth, Kirk Carlson, Hot Springs, SD; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Warren Carlson, Gaitherburg, MD; Charles (Vivian) Carlson, Morgantown, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Lillian, Russell is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lester Carlson.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM until the 4:00 PM Funeral Service on Friday, May 15, 2009 in Christ Lutheran Church, 2415 Ensign St., Duluth, MN. Pastor Michael Main will officiate.
Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, Duluth, MN.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
