Russell L. Nelson, 80, longtime Superior resident died on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Golden Living in Superior. He was born on September 8, 1936 in Superior, WI to Samuel and Amanda (Kloster) Nelson.
He was a graduate of Central High School in Superior. He worked as a mason with Hienze Home Raising and then was a supervisor with Jeno’s Inc. for many years. Russell served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a veteran of foreign war.
He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Badgers fan. He enjoyed playing cribbage and loved cryptograms. He loved playing softball in his younger years.
He is survived by four daughters, Mary Love, Hawthorne, WI, Robyn Nelson, Superior, WI, Julie (Duane) Johnson, Hixton, WI and Tamera Craft, Ardmore, OK; one son, James Nelson, Superior, WI; twenty grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Swanson, Chicago, IL; one brother, Ken Nelson and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce; daughter Jeanne Nelson; grandson, Christopher Flick; sister Mary Nelson of Lake Nebagamon; brothers, John, Stan and Tom Nelson and son-in-law, Douglas Love.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, on Thursday, December 15, 2016 and will continue until the 12 Noon funeral service at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East Fifth Street, Superior with Pastor Sarah Kerkes of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church officiating.
