Ruth D. Baillie, 87, resident of Brule, WI, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 27, 1932, the daughter of August and Esther (Neimanen) Heino.
She married Robert “Bob” Baillie on September 15, 1950 and they celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage before his passing in January.
Ruth grew up on the family farm in Maple, Wisconsin. She told many stories about the farm life, her love for her dog, and how frighten she was of the very large plow horse. Ruth was a cheerleader in high school. Her first job away from home was as a Woolworth Girl in the Duluth store. She was owner/operator of the Brule Cabin Courts. Later she worked with Bob at Superior Baillie Oil Company where she ran the laundromat and use book store in South Superior. Ruth’s final job, other than being a great grandmother, was working at the Brule Post Office. This was one of her favorite experiences, she highly valued her co-workers and enjoyed greeting the customers.
Ruth was a member of the Brule Presbyterian Church and the Waino Riders Snowmobiles Club. She was an avid gardener, golfer, loved snowmobiling and 4 wheeling with Bob. Ruth and Bob enjoyed camping in their RV and traveling with friends and family (especially the grandkids), and entertaining in the “party bus”.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Marlene Lawton, Scottsdale, AZ; four sons, Mark (Rebecca) Baillie and Dean (Cindy Colby) Baillie, both of Brule, WI, Neil (Diane Dau) Baillie, Lakewoods, MN, and Bill (Nadine Lohman) Baillie, Superior, WI; ten grandchildren, Kelly Russell, Kirsten Larsen, Troy Lawton, Robert Baillie, Candace Vee, Alexandra Haskins, Nathan Martin Hanson, Alicia Baillie and Chad and Joshua Lohman; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Leo (Ruth) Heino; and nieces and nephews - Greg, Daryl and Diane (Leo), Dick, Rita and Paul (Elsie), Donita and Rose (Marta), Becky and Marty (Martin) and Heidi and Kathy (Ray).
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; and her parents, two sisters (Elsie and Marta); three brothers (Ervid, Ray and Martin); nephews Mike, Willy and Jim Heino.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 th Street, Superior. Visitation will resume at 11:30 AM Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Brule Presbyterian Church, 5810 S. County Road H., Brule, WI, and will continue until the 1:00 PM memorial service with Pastor Richard Blood officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
