Ruth E. Gallagher

Ruth E. Gallagher, 87, of Superior, died peacefully, Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at home surrounded by family. She was born in Superior, July 11, 1934, the daughter of Roy and Ruth (Stalvig) Peterson.

Ruth was united in marriage to John “Jack” Gallagher, October 19, 1963, and they were soon to celebrate fifty-eight years of marriage.

Together they had five children and Ruth enjoyed her years at home caring for her family. Ruth was a caregiver all her life. She loved caring for children and, in addition to their family, she and Jack became foster parents and provided loving care to more than 100 children over the years.

Ruth enjoyed bowling, sewing, knitting, playing cards and games, baking, canning, country music (especially Marty Robbins), and was a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church in Superior. Above all, Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  She will be dearly missed by all!

She is survived by her beloved husband, Jack; daughters, Monica Tikkanen, Cheryl (Robert “Bob”) Nelson, and Misty Gordon; special daughter, Becky (Terry) Ernst; son, Nathan (Jennifer) Gallagher; grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Aaron, Kyle, Anthony, Terrill, T’Quan, Jack and Katie; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosanne Lally, and Robin Cathers; several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Laurvik; great-grandson, A.J. Conley; sisters, Rosalee, Roberta, Royleen, and Renee; brothers, Roy, Ronald, Richard, and Rodney; baby brothers, Alvin LeeRoy, and Roger; and her parents.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Holy Assumption Catholic Church, 5601 Tower Avenue, Superior, and will continue until the 12:00 PM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Ron Olson and Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci con-celebrating the mass.

Ruth’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.

Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth’s name to the Douglas County Foster Care Program, 1316 N. 14th Street, Ste. 400, Superior, WI.
