Ruth L. Hannula

Ruth L. Hannula, 88, Poplar, WI resident, died Friday, October 13, 2017 at Middle River Health & Rehabilitation Center in South Range, WI. She was born on September 11, 1929 in Mohawk, MI to William and Mae (Aho) Wuolukka.

Ruth graduated in 1946 from Calumet High School in Michigan. She worked as an executive secretary for the School District of Maple for thirty years retiring in 1989. Ruth received Support Staff of the Year Award in 1984-85.

Ruth married Helmer Hannula on October 2, 1948 and they celebrated fifty years of marriage before his passing in July of 1999.

Ruth was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Red Hat Society and the Richard I. Bong Heritage Center. She served on the RSVP Advisory Board for two terms. After Ruth and Helmer retired, they bought a fishing boat “The Lucky Devil” for ten years they enjoyed Lake Superior fishing, and camping out in their motor home.  Ruth also enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sporting activities. Ruth loved all of her family, but the grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

Ruth is survived by three sons, Brant (Doris) Hannula, Wentworth, WI, Dan (Joan) Hannula, Abbotsford, WI and Jim (Char) Hannula, Osseo, WI; one daughter, Brenda (Rod) Olson, Sandy, UT; nine grandchildren, Brooks (Jennifer) Hannula and their children, Aubrey and Brantley, Shelby (Tyler) Mello and their children, Ashdon and Layne, Bryan (Amy) Hannula and their children, Braydon, Blayne and Breya, Katie (Jordon) Reynolds and their children, Kollin and Colt, Chris (Malorie) Hannula and their children, Luke, Jax, John and Claire, Amanda (Jared) Flaschberger and their children, Lilly and one on the way, Michael Hannula (Rachel) and daughter, Emma, Dex (Alisha) Olson and Sadie (Dean) Ekker and their son, Blake; one sister, Yvonne (Clarence) Fisher, Hancock, MI; two nieces, Renee and Michelle.

She is preceded in death by her husband Helmer, her parents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 PM on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church and continue until the 2:30 PM funeral service with Pastor Donna Rutten  and Pastor Lee Boleman co-officiating.  Burial will be in Poplar Cemetery in Poplar, WI.
