Sherwin "Sherm" R. Wittke

February 13, 1929 — August 31, 2016

Sherwin “Sherm” R. Wittke, 87, Superior resident, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospice in Duluth peacefully surrounded by family. He was born on February 13, 1929 in Racine, WI to Fred and Ottilia (Jansta) Wittke.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Carol Ladwig on May 2, 1953 and they celebrated fifty-six years of marriage before her passing in 2009.
Sherm was a salesman for many years and more recently was a greeter at Wal-Mart. He previously was a policeman in Racine, WI and the District Manager for AAA.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Superior. He also was a member of the Moose Lodge #606 where he enjoyed volunteering his time. Sherm was also a member of the Superior Elks Lodge #403 where he was elected Elk of the Year.

Sherm is survived by three sons, Don (Cathy), West Chester, PA, Steve (Lisa), Town of Superior, WI and David (Tina) Wittke, Duluth, MN; five grandchildren, Ryan (Maia) Lee, Denver, CO, Nathan (Holly Prowant) Wittke, West Chester, PA, Stacie Wittke, Wilmington, DE and Kaleb and Marissa Wittke, both of Duluth, MN; several nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren, Shane (Chantelle) Stebner, FL, Ashley and Katelyn Stebner, both of Superior, WI.

He is preceded in death by his wife Carol, brother Bob Wittke and his parents.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, September 5, 2016 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street, Superior.

Visitation will resume at Christ Lutheran Church, 320 N. 28th Street E., Superior on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor David Schoessow officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior. Military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.

Pallbearers for the service will be Sherm’s grandchildren Ryan Lee, Nathan, Kaleb, Stacie and Marissa Wittke.
