Shirley Acker, 91, Superior resident, passed away on Oct. 4
th
at St. Luke’s Hospice. She was born on July 12, 1931, in Wauwatosa, WI to Gustafson and Sylvia (Reimer) Nelson.
Shirley married Lee Acker on January 17, 1953, and they celebrated 43 years of marriage before his passing in 1996.
She was a member of the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Superior Women’s Bowling Association and was an active member of the Tri Lakes Community Center for several years. Before becoming a permanent resident of Amnicon Lake, she enjoyed camping, horseshoes and water skiing. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, loved Bingo and playing smear. She and Lee did a lot of fishing on Amnicon Lake.
Shirley is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Tom) Lisdahl, Superior, WI and Cindy (Joe) Tomaich, Duluth, MN; one son, Greg Acker, Superior, WI; six grandchildren, Derick Tomaich and Kyle (Jenn) Tomaich, both of Duluth, MN, Casie Lewis, Henderson, NV, Brett Lisdahl (Nolla Bayly), Salt Lake City, UT, Halley Hutjens, Green Bay, WI and Jenna (Jim) Kendall, Two Harbors, MN; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee, daughter Cheryl Anderson, granddaughter Bree Lisdahl and brothers Mike and Al Nelson.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 on Sunday, Oct. 23 rd at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 th Street, Superior and continue until the memorial service at 1:30 with Gary Banker officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Shirley’s celebration of life will continue after the service at Shamrock Pizza located at 5825 Tower Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tri Lakes Community Center’s Scholarship Fund or an organization of your choice in her remembrance.
