Shirley Beck

Shirley (Larson) Beck, 93, Superior resident, died Monday, October 31, 2022, in Duluth, MN. Shirley was born on July 29, 1929, at home in Duluth, MN, the only child of Herbert and Signe (Abrahamson) Larson.

At the age of three, the family moved to Superior, WI where she attended and graduated from Central High School, the class of 1946.

On September 2, 1950, she married Paul Beck. They had two sons, Douglas, and Ronald and one daughter, Kathleen “Kathy.”

She worked at Orecks in Duluth, MN and the family-owned Danish Bakery in Superior. She retired from the School District of Superior after twenty-three years as a home visitor for the Title 1/Chapter 1 Program.

Shirley enjoyed going to the cabin on Madeline Island, walking the beach and picking up beach glass. Her other interests were knitting, crocheting all kinds of crafts, and “The Sewing Club.” But what she enjoyed most of all was watching her grandchildren in their sports.

Shirley was able to live at home until the age of 91. During that year her physical abilities changed. She was then transferred to Superior Rehabilitation Center where she enjoyed her remaining years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul on December 27, 1974, and her daughter Kathy on December 23, 2017.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Douglas (Joanne) and Ronald (Cindy); eight grandchildren, Paul (Kim), Matthew, Andrea, Ryan, Marc, Megan (Matt), Joshua (Liana) and Jaydeen (Nate); seven great-grandchildren, Piper, Madden, Sloane, Kai, Grayson, Sawyer and Aubrie; son-in-law, Douglas Anderson and numerous cousins and friends, especially her special friend, Allan Carlson.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church and will continue until the Funeral Service with Pastor Carolyn Mowchan officiating at 12:00 PM. Luncheon to follow.

Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, WI immediately after the luncheon.
