Shirley Mohr Newman Hoskins

Shirley (Johnson) Mohr Newman Hoskins, 87, longtime Superior resident, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Superior Rehab and Nursing Center in Superior.

She was born on November 20, 1928 in Superior, WI to Henry G. and Lillian (Ronning) Johnson.

Shirley graduated from the former East High School in Superior.

At age 15, she started working for the four Corners Store in Hines, WI. She also worked at Russell Creamery, Twin Ports Dairy, Arrowhead Chemicals all in Superior, Greene-Olson Memorials in Duluth.

Shirley was mostly recently the bookkeeper and co-owner/operator of Newman Monument Company for many years.

She was a member of the Friendship Birthday Club for over sixty years having lunch with the group. She had strong faith in her God and her family and friends were very important to her. She enjoyed music, collecting recipes, baking, crocheting, knitting and country rides. She also loved writing, Shamrock Pizza birthday parties, picnics in Solon Springs, past corn roasts in Lake Nebagamon and reminiscing with Dorothy and Jerry.

Shirley is survived by one daughter, Patricia “Patti” Mohr Barker, Superior, WI; three sons, Robert “Bob” (Pam) Mohr, Solon Springs, WI, Jack (Patty) Mohr, Lake Nebagamon, WI and William “Bill” (Susan Brannan) Mohr, Superior, WI; former husband and father of her children, Edward W. Mohr Jr., Bennett, WI; special former son-in-law, Eugene Barker; fifteen grandchildren, Tefta (DJ), Lindsey (Paul), Brian (Amanda), Shannon, Carrieanne, Nathaniel, Daniel (Nicole), Heidi, Henry (Angela), Tanya (Dave), Kelli (Lance), Shelley (Kane), Michael (Jen), James R. (Robbie) and Anthony; twenty-two great-grandchildren, Trent, Tia, Grant, Nathaniel, Talon, Orion, Jason, Gannon, Hunter, Damien, Dillon, Gabriel, Harley, Elise, Tyler, Questan, Drake, Tanner, Braden, Corey, Kyle and Trent; one brother, Dennis (Mona Wnek) Johnson, Superior, WI; several special nieces, nephews, cousins, including Jerry and Dorothy Johnson, Superior, WI, Cherie and Ryan Jost, South Range, WI and extended family members, a special niece her twin “Sue” and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George Hoskins; a son James E. Mohr; one brother, Thomas H Johnson and great granddaughter Starr.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Superior Nursing and Rehab Center for their wonderful care of our Shirley.

Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM, Friday, June 17, 2016 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5th Street, Superior and continue until the 6:00 PM Memorial service.
