Stanley Edward Skelton, 87, of Superior, WI passed away peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2012 in his home surrounded by family. He was born in London, England on December 14, 1924 to Edward John and Annie (Bonomi) Skelton.
After completing his high school education he enlisted in the British Royal Reserves and continued to serve under his majesties government through 1951. Upon completion of active duty he briefly worked for the English Postal Service. Years later he went on to purchase and operate his own transportation fleet. After many successful years in this endeavor he went on to purchase and become owner and administrator of a nursing home facility in which he operated until retirement. Stan moved to the United States in 1989 where he invested in real estate property.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Irene. He is survived by his loving wife of seventeen wonderful years, Eleanor (Ellie) Laible-Skelton; his daughters Veronica (Tony), Madeline (David), Yvonne (Martin); his stepchildren Lori Coulson, Judy (Tom) Quick, Brad (Annie) Laible, and Bill Laible; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Stan was a member of United Grand Masonic Lodge No. 6495 of London, England. He also was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and a previous member of the Elk’s Lodge of Superior.
Some of his favorite pastimes were golfing in England and Spain with his buddies of the “101 Club”. In later years, his passion was woodworking. Stan never lost his English tradition of greeting each and every day with his cup of English Tea. Stan and Ellie shared seventeen years of memories together, one of which included traveling abroad.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Faith United Methodist Church, Superior and continue until the 12 Noon memorial service with Pastor Joel Certa-Werner officiating. Following the service, the family invites everyone to join them for a fellowship luncheon at church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Stanley’s name to Faith United Methodist Church, 1531 Hughitt Avenue, Superior.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the hospice care team at St. Luke’s Hospital for the wonderful care Stanley received. Stan graced the lives of many with kindness and generosity and he will be missed. Until we meet again, and as Stan would say, “Right you are.”
