Stella Chelik, was born to Earth on May 6, 1923. She was the daughter of Polish immigrants, Jacob and Mary (Pleva) Bratek.
She was a long time resident of Superior, WI. She lived a full and long life of about 91 years. Recently, Stella became ill and was hospitalized. Stella was born to eternal life on September 28, 2014 at about 4:30 AM at Essentia Health/St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, MN.
This upbringing instilled in her a catholic Christian faith. Stella had many challenges in her life. Through the challenges, she always kept her faith. She is a faithful practicing Catholic. She attended Mass regularly. In her later years, took joy in the Catholic church having a polish pope John Paul II.
She was employed as a laundry worker and with the food service department at University of Wisconsin-Superior.
Stella was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, a current member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Thaddeus Kosciusko Ladies Society and the Salvation Army Home League. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking bread and cooking. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and friends.
Stella had three children, Mary Lou (Bernard) Reger, Superior; Kathy (Gary) Glonek, Montreal, WI and Robert Miller, Superior. Also, Stella was blessed with six grandchildren, Michael (Elizabeth) Reger, Brian Reger, Andrew Reger, Christopher Reger, Teresa Reger and Emily Glonek; three great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Alex and Effendius; one brother, Joseph Bratek, Superior and several nieces and nephews.
Stella was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Leo Miller; her second husband, Peter Chelik; one sister, Ann Kolodziej and two brothers, Emil and Andrew “Circus” Bratek.
Visitation will begin with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 10:30 AM and will continue until the 12:00 Noon Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of Christ the King on Friday, October 3, 2014 with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
Pallbearers for the service will be Stella’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
