Susan J. Elstad

Susan Jan Elstad (Gollinger), age 57 of Duluth, MN died Friday September 2, 2022, in a car accident. She was born October 6, 1964, in Duluth, MN.

Sue was a proud 1983 graduate of Duluth Cathedral (Marshall) and 35-year partner in the family business, Diamond Drilling and Supply, alongside her husband Ren. Sue was one in a million, and her sudden passing leaves a gaping hole in the lives of all who knew her.

Sue was a beloved wife, cherished mother, adored grandmother, dearly loved sister, treasured aunt, and dear friend. Sue was a nine-year breast cancer survivor and always carried a positive outlook. Her smile and infectious laugh could brighten any room. Sue loved cabin time, cooking, reading, traveling, snowmobiling, golf, dance, hockey and so many other adventures. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, most of all with her husband, children, and granddaughters. She was adored by all that knew her and will be dearly missed.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Jacqueline Gollinger, mother-in-law Betty Elstad, father-in-law Robert Elstad and nephew Cooper McKinnon.

She is survived by her loving husband Ren Elstad, beloved children Kaylie (Steve) Pilla, Max Elstad, and adored granddaughters Lucia and Grace Pilla; siblings Steve (Deirdre) Gollinger, Paul Gollinger, Sara (Peter) Rust, and Mary Jo (Jerry) Austad; sisters-in-law Robin (Tony) McKinnon and Jodi Elstad (Jeff Michalski); mother-in-law Pamela Elstad, Aunt Pat Renier; many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Thursday September 22, 2022, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, 151 W Linden Street, Duluth, MN 55811. Celebration of life following mass.
