Sylvester Robert Palumbo of Superior Wisconsin died in St. Luke’s Hospice Care Center on Sunday, May 29 th 2016. He was born on May 25, 1932 to Sylvester and Martha (Dormady) Palumbo.
Sylvester Robert, known as Bob to family and friends, was husband to Margie and father of Bob (Carol) Palumbo (Valparaiso IN), Cindy (Brian) Frost (Duluth MN), and Patty (Krish) Arasa (Toronto, Canada). He is survived by them, his sister Lois Hill, four grandchildren, Brenden, Sarah, Steve, Jason and one great grandson, Joey.
Bob married Margie Glonek on June 30 th , 1956 after returning from two years of service in Korea. He joined Murphy Oil refining company in 1956 as First Assistant Operator and retired 37 years later as Area Operations Superintendent. Bob is remembered by family and friends as a devoted husband and father who embraced life. We still see him at the summer cabin barbequing, waterskiing and throwing horseshoes and in the winter striving for an 800 series on the bowling alley. With a deep commitment to the growth of middle-schoolers, he spent ten years coaching the St. Francis Xavier Boy’s Basketball team. In retirement, he pursued his passion for woodworking: he designed and built exquisite oak tables, desks, and cabinets keeping some but giving most away to his children, grandchildren, and friends. He turned photographs of several of the Great Lakes Iron-ore ships and historical tugboats operating out of Duluth and Two Harbors into wooden miniature replicas with an exactness in color and detail that clearly showed that he was an artist. He lived for his friends and family.
Please join us on June 2 nd , 2016 for Bob’s funeral service and celebration of his life at St. Francis Xavier Church: visitation starting at 10:00 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. James Tobolski as celebrant at 11:30 am. Burial will follow the mass at St. Francis Cemetery.
