Sylvia Ann Patterson

Sylvia Ann Patterson, 83, a Superior resident, entered into eternal life on May 17, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. She was married to Robert E. Patterson of Superior, WI.

Sylvia was born on May 27, 1934 in Monroe County, WI, on Fish Creek Ridge to Wilhelm and Clara (Johnson) Kirkeeng. She was baptized and confirmed at Fish Creek Lutheran Church. Sylvia grew up on a farm with her two brothers and two sisters where faith, family and education were the center of her life. These values were carried forward in the raising of her own children.

Sylvia graduated from high school and went on to receive her B.S. Degree and Masters in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She taught in Cashton, Marshall and the Maple School Districts in Wisconsin and retired from the Superior School District after 37 years of teaching.

She was an active member of the Superior Area Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Elk Ladies #403 and the American Legion Auxiliary #435.

Sylvia was passionately involved in church activities including weekly Bible Study, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Vesper Tea.  While in the PLCW Priscilla and Deborah Circles, she enjoyed planning events for shut-ins and rest homes in our area.

She thoroughly enjoyed Wednesday morning coffee with her teacher colleagues and Thursday luncheons with her church friends.

Sylvia and Bob loved spending time with their children, grandchildren, relatives and friends at their home and at their cabin in Minong, WI. She will be remembered for the love, support, and kindness she always showed to everyone.

Sylvia is survived by her husband Bob; daughters, Rachel Austreng (Dennis Martineau), Mary Matheson (Tad), Pamela Stauty (Don), Michelle Candage (Dan); son, Patrick Patterson (Brenda Tocholke); 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alice Gums (Jim), West Salem, WI and Dorothy Paulikas, La Crosse, WI; brother, Alf Kirkeeng (Denise), Venice, FL and sister-in-law, Charlotte Kirkeeng, La Crosse, WI.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Lester and grandchildren Christopher, Matthew and Emily Candage.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 ^th Street, Superior. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street, Superior at 10:00 AM and continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Will Mowchan officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
