Terrance R. “Terry” De Vinck, 88, longtime Superior resident, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016.
Terry was born on November 19, 1927 in Superior, WI, the son of Cyril and Emily (Levens) De Vinck.
He graduated from Superior East High School in 1945, and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 1951. Terry was employed by the DM&IR Railroad for over forty years, and retired as Superintendent of Motive Power and Cars in 1986.
Terry served in the United States Navy during the final years of World War II.
He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Acacia Masonic Lodge #329 (where he was a Past Master and fifty year member); Proctor Federal Credit Union; United Presbyterian Church; the former First Presbyterian Church; DM&IR Veterans Association; and the DM&IR Lunch Bunch.
Terry is survived by his wife Elaine of Superior; his six children, Nancy (Pat) Pickett, Mountain Iron, MN; Sandy Hill, Janesville, WI; Debbie (Mike) McGahey, Prior Lake, MN; Linda (Dave) Borgen, Apple Valley, MN; Brian De Vinck, Oak Park, IL; and Beth (Jeff) Neuendorf , Lino Lakes, MN; nine grandchildren, Rob, Lori, Erik, Pam, Dustin, Nikki, Kyle, Will and Jena; one sister, Lorraine Frailey; and many great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril and Emily De Vinck; two brothers, Francis and Joseph; and three sisters, Irene, Grace & Cyrilla.
Special thanks to the staff of Essentia Health and St Luke’s in Duluth. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Superior.
A Masonic Service will be held at 9:30 AM, on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the United Presbyterian Church, 229 North 28th Street East, Superior, WI. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Joel Huenemann officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
