Theodore “Ted” E. Hillman, 78, longtime resident of Superior, died Saturday, October 15, 2016. He was born November 22, 1937 to August T. and Marion L. (Huntoon) Hillman in Cloquet, MN.
Ted graduated from Cloquet High School, and later attended the University of Minnesota Duluth.
He was employed at USG and Conwed in Cloquet, MN for over 40 years.
Ted was an entrepreneur and creator. He opened 13 patents on ceiling tiles and their design. He traveled to Belgium and Saudi Arabia to open manufacturing plants.
Ted loved flying planes. He flew over 50 types of aircraft in his lifetime, and enjoyed aerial acrobatics. He enjoyed boating and sailing, and raced sailboats on Lake Superior for over 4 years.
He especially loved spending time at Cornucopia with his longtime companion Sally.
Ted is survived by his longtime companion Sarah “Sally” Ehlers, Superior; one daughter, Debbie (Rick) Slatten, Proctor, MN; sons Colin Hillman, Wrenshall, MN, Allen (Karin) Hillman, Proctor, MN and Brian (Angie) Hillman, Wrenshall, MN; grandson, Jake, Proctor, MN; granddaughter, Amanda (Zack) Wyman, Wrenshall, MN; two great-grandsons, Evan and Aiden; sister Karen Follet, Kettle River, MN; brother, Duane Hillman of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Upper Deck Restaurant, 1415 N. 46th Street, Superior. A Time of Remembrance Service will be held at 2:00 PM. Refreshments and Upper Deck buffet will be offered throughout the day during the Time of Remembrance.
