Thomas W. Burhans

Thomas W. Burhans, 79, Poplar, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 in his home.

He was born on May 21, 1932 in Delvan, WI to William and Helen Burhans.

He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Amnicon.

Tom was a member of the Mission Covenant Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved gardening.

He is survived by two daughters, Helen (Gerald) Den Hartog, Tomah, WI, Dawn (Brian) Den Hartog, Minong, WI; five sons, James (Joyce) Burhans, Barnes, WI, William “Bill” Burhans, Poplar, WI, John (Elizabeth “Wendi”) Burhans, Thief River Falls, MN, Jeffrey Burhans, South Range, WI, Thomas Burhans, Jr., Duluth, MN; twenty-one grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn on August 17, 2008; his parents and two sisters, Helen Savage and Josie Nutt.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home and will continue at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 16, 2011 until the 12 Noon Funeral Service in Mission Covenant Church in Poplar.
Pastor Darrell Nelson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Cloverland Cemetery at a later date.

Pallbearers for the service will be Tom’s grandsons, Josh and Matt Den Hartog, Andrew, Nathan and Adam Burhans and Jonathan Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom’s granddaughters, Rebecca, Jennifer, Samantha Den Hartog, Laura, Kiana and Kylie Burhans and Brittney Moore.
