Thomas G. Dickenson, 81, lifelong resident of Superior, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospice, Duluth, MN, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 24, 1944, to Roy and Irene (Sewall) Dickenson.
Tom graduated from the former East High School in Superior, in the class of 1962 and later graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. He served in the Air National Guard for six years. He started his 30 years of service to the Burlington Northern Railway as a switchman and later became a locomotive engineer. He was also a rehabilitation counselor for the Burlington, working out of Billings, MT for several years.
Tom was united in marriage to Barbara A. Sperling on August 22, 1970. Together they raised two beautiful children and celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Tom was a longtime member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, was a former Moose Club 606 member, and also a former member of the Knights of Columbus while living in Waupun, WI.
In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and was also an avid bowler. He was a sports fan, favoring the Green Bay Packers.
Tom was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He had a quick wit and a gift for making people feel warm and comfortable. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife Barb; his daughter, Andrea Dickenson, Meadowlands, MN; his son, Matthew (Shannon) Dickenson, Solon Springs, WI; his sister-in-law, Betty (Roy) Dickenson; and grandchildren Caleb (Moen), Owen, Ben, and Isaac.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents; his sister Joyce Hendricks; and his brothers Roy and Glenn Dickenson; by his sister-in-law, Barbara G. (Tim) Lawson Sperling; and his brother-in-law, Thomas E. Sperling II.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Friday, August 1, 2025 on at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street in Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
