Thomas R. High (Haij), Superior resident, died peacefully on Friday, March 12, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN surrounded by his family. Tom was born in Duluth, MN, November 27, 1937, the son of Otto and Pauline (Gnidica) High.
Tom graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1955. He then completed his military obligation, serving two years in the Army as a Combat Engineer and six years in the Army Reserve.
Tom graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and went on to teach high school in Michigan. He met his wife Lynn, in Michigan and they were married on August 28, 1965.
After teaching, he was employed as a salesman by Armour-Dial and later by Hills Brothers Coffee, where he worked until retirement.
He had belonged to many organizations throughout his life including the Lions Club, Winter Lakes Alliance and the American Legion. He was also a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior, WI.
Above all, Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be dearly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lynn and their two sons, Andrew (Jodee), and Aaron (Traci); grandchildren, Samuel, Kaydee, Maximilian and Alexander; brother-in-law, Larry Van Spriell (Tamera); and nephew, John (Sue) High.
He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Harold C. High and nephew Harold T. High.
The family would like to thank the doctors from P.S. Rudie Medical Clinic. In addition, they would also like to thank the Pulmonologist and the 5E I.C.U. nursing staff at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M., March 17, 2021 at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
Following the service, Military Honors will be accorded at the church by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
