Timothy J. Fitzgerald, resident of Brule, WI, died Monday, November 25, 2024, in his home. He was born in Superior, WI on June 23, 1944, the son of Gerald and Jane (Lindberg) Fitzgerald.
Tim served his county honorably in the United States Army National Guard for many years.
Tim grew up in the Central Park neighborhood, and like everyone else he spent many hours at the Red Barn skating rink learning to play in the early years of organized hockey in Superior, and then coached lots of little kids in the neighborhood. He was a member of the Red Barn Raiders 1957 City Hockey Champions.
School days were spent at Lincoln, Franklin, and East HS. His early interests were sports and anything that had wheels. Only Tim could tell you how many different cars he owned in his lifetime, we, his siblings, lost track long ago. Tim also had a knack of picking up stray/lost dogs, bringing home our beloved “Herb,” a little Jack Russell that became quite a character. He often reminisced about early Lake Nebagamon Dances, (his favorite place), and trips to Madison to see the Badgers. The Badgers, Packers and UMD Hockey were among his favorites. He was an early snowmobiler, avid deer hunter enjoying the get together with the “Beauregard and Nebagamon” hunting crews.
Tim’s work life had him at many endeavors. Early days at The Evening Telegram, Red Owl, tending bar at many establishments, partnering with his brother Mark in Pizza Shops in St. Paul, owning/operating the “Handlebar Tavern.” Eventually becoming an Insurance Agent for Allstate, and Salesman for Upper Lakes Foods, just to name a few.
Tim was the oldest of 7 boys, and blazed the trail for the rest, being the first to start wearing down Mom and Dad, and we thanked him often. Tim was a loving son, a great brother, and one of a kind father, we will miss him.
He is survived by his sons, Paul (Louise Rock) Pedersen, Lee Pedersen; grandson Matt; brothers, Scott (Candace) Fitzgerald, James (Mary Pat) Fitzgerald, Jeffrey (Diane) Fitzgerald, Rob (Mary Jo) Fitzgerald, many nieces, and nephews. And his special friend, Annette Yrjanainen.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen; brothers, Gerald “Scooter” Fitzgerald, and Mark Fitzgerald, and his parents Jane and Gerald.
A Celebration of Tim’s Life will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E 5th Street in Superior, and will continue until the Time of Remembrance at 1:00 PM with Pastor Darrel Kyle officiating. Military Honor will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
