Valoice "Val" Simons

Valoice Simons, 80, South Range, died Monday, April 9, 2012 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was born on September 25, 1931 in Fort Dodge, IA to Clarence Dixon and Edna Whiting.

She married Clarence Simons on January 10, 1996 in Forrest Lake, MN and celebrated seventeen years of marriage.

Valoice was employed as a realtor for Centennial Real Estate Co. and retired in 1996.

She was a fun loving, devoted wife, stepmother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sports, knitting and crafts. She loved to cook and try new recipes. She was a selfless person that cared for her family and friends.

In addition to her husband Clarence, Valoice is survived by a special niece, Brenda Ferreira, North Branch, MN; a sister, Betty Sampson, Chicago, IL; four step-daughters, Cherry (John) Hanna, Poplar, WI, Becky (Dave) O’Brien, Cloquet, MN, Sandy Jo (Tony) Pison, Hawthorne, WI, Casey (Dan) Huray, Solon Springs, WI; four step-sons, Robert (Judy) Simons, Valley Center, CA, Randy (Becky) Simons, Hawthorne, WI, Brian (Jeni) Simons, Cloquet, MN; Andy Simons, Superior; thirteen step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one step-great-grandchild, Wyatt Hanna; two sisters, Ruth Shay and Marlys Fredrickson; two brothers, Richard and Bud and a nephew, Robbie Dixon.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service on Friday, April 13, 2012 in the Whispering Pines Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Thomas Lindberg, officiating.

Burial will take place at a later date in Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne, WI.
