Van Jeffery “Chipper” Korhonen 57, longtime Oakland, WI area resident, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 unexpectedly in his home.
He was born on May 19, 1958 in Superior to Sulo and Betty (Serre) Korhonen, of Wentworth, youngest of their seven children.
Chipper graduated from Northwestern High School in 1976.
He worked at repairing outboard motors, changing, mounting and repairing tires, filling potholes and as a carpenter in construction.
He was a loyal Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed boating and fishing with his children, family gatherings and events and helping out if he was able. He entertained us, playing his guitar, singing and had fun getting together with other musicians for Sunday “jamming”.
Chipper was a sweet, loving, caring, fun to have around guy, one of the good ones, and we will miss him and love him always.
Chipper is survived by his loving daughters, Vanessa Korhonen, South Range, WI, Vana (John Darwin) Korhonen, Iron River, WI, his son Zachary P. Korhonen, Superior, three sisters, Judy Baker and Deborah Korhonen, both of Granstburg, WI, Virginia (Wayne) Grimsrud, Sr., Poplar, WI, two brothers, David (Kathy) Korhonen, Poplar, WI, Daniel Korhonen, Superior; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Korhonen, Brule, WI.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sulo in 1964; his mother Betty in 2006; and his brother Lester in 2002.
A Time of Remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday, October 26, 2015 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5th Street, Superior.
