Viola M. Johnson

Viola M. Johnson, 97, of Superior, WI passed away peacefully on Friday, February 11, 2022, at New Perspectives Senior Living in Superior, WI. She was born in Detroit, MI on January 25, 1925, the daughter of Robert and Viola (Preibe) Bennett.

Viola was united in marriage to Etseul Johnson in March of 1945, and they celebrated thirty-nine years of marriage before his passing in 1984. Together, they moved to Duluth, MN in 1970 where they raised their children and where Viola lived for forty-seven years before relocating to Superior in 2017.

Viola enjoyed her years as a homemaker and working for the Senior Aide Program in Duluth for many years. She especially enjoyed playing cribbage and was a longtime member of the Duluth Women’s Cribbage League. Above all, Viola was a loving mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy (James) Chesney, Duluth, MN; grandsons, David (Sheri) Johnson, Superior, WI, Rick (Holly) Rousson, The Pas Mantiboa, Canada, Joshua (Kristin) Cieluch, Junction City, KS, Jonathan (Ashley) Cieluch, Duluth, MN, and Jamie (AJ) Farleigh, Duluth, MN; eighteen great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Eva Shipman, of Michigan.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Etsuel Johnson; sons, William, Basil and Leon; daughters, Joyce and Viola Jane Zielke; grandson, James Chesney, and her parents.

Per Viola’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
