Viola I. “Dolly” Talso, 92, longtime Iron River resident, WI, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Golden Living Center of Superior. She was born on January 14, 1918 in Superior to James and Viola (DeMars) Simpson.
She graduated from the former Central High School and went on to attend college for two years.
Dolly was a waitress for many years serving in the Iron River and Brule area at various locations.
She was a longtime member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Iron River and was also a member of its Altar and Rosary Societies. She was also a member of the Iron River Homemakers, T.O.P.S. and the Iron River PTA.
Dolly enjoyed oil and water color painting. She also enjoyed gardening, baking and will be remembered for her famous pies. She loved attending the many family get-togethers throughout the years.
She is survived by two daughters Barbara (Michael) Moran, Foxboro, WI; Carol (Walter) Gyllander, Iron River, WI; one son Jerry (Tricia) Talso, Iron River; nine grandchildren, Kelly (Mike) Lurndal, Superior, Tim (Connie) Moran, McMinville, OR, Mark (Mary) Moran, Superior, Greg Gillespey, Denver, CO, Tracy (Mark) Pope, Herbster, WI, Darrin Gillespey, Superior, Nicole Talso, Iron River, Jordan Talso, Iron River, Austin Talso, Iron River; ten great-grandchildren, one brother, Duane Simpson, Iron River and several nieces and nephews.
Dolly was preceded in death by her first husband, Axel Erickson, her second husband, Ray Talso; a daughter, Nancy Erickson; her parents and three brothers, Ed, Walter and James Simpson.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 30, 2010 until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service in St. Michael Catholic Church in Iron River. Deacon John Grek will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery in the Spring.
Pallbearers for the service will be Mark Pope, Mark Moran, Mike Lurndal, Mark Thompson, Jim Gotham and Darrin Gillespey.
