Waino "Marvin" Colby

May 23, 1931 — January 14, 2021

On Thursday January, 14th 2021 Marvin decided to join his family and son in heaven. Marvin lost his life surrounded by his family and loved ones, in his place of residence in Maple, WI, at the age of 89 years old. He was a very strong and stubborn Finnlander that loved his family.

Marvin was born May 23, 1931 at his grandma’s place in Maple Wisconsin. To his parents Waino Colby and Ailien (Tykkila) Colby, of Maple Wisconsin. Marvin married Elizabeth Lundberg September 7, 1969. This past September they celebrated 50 years of marriage. Early on Marvin worked on the MP ore docks, after that he became a lifelong dairy farmer. He retired from farming in 1998, and then to keep busy he worked with his son at his farm, fixing machinery and driving tractors.

Marvin was a member of the Cloverland Bible Baptist Church.

Marvin was the type of man that would help anyone that needed it. He loved his family and his friends. He loved talking in Finn and loved to go visiting. He loved his daily trips to Sundown for coffee. Every spring he looked forward to Stone Lake open house with Robert. Dad loved farming no matter how much pain, money, or sleepless nights he had with the family. It was his way of life. This is a life his son Robert took on to follow in his dad’s footsteps.

Marvin’s pride and joy were his grandkids, and it’s evident in the thousands of photos we share. Marvin loved his caretakers. He struggled with dementia and Parkinson’s, and near the end had some very special helpers. Cindy (daughter), Elsa (sister-in-law), Teresa (cousin), and Holly (granddaughter). The family thanks all of you for your time and compassion.

Marvin is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Liz” (Lundberg) Colby of Maple, WI. His two daughters Cindy Colby (Dean Baillie) of Maple, WI, and Nancy (Paul) Hoosier of Buffalo, MN. His son Robert (Amy) Colby of Maple, WI. A very special friend Garret (Becky) Onraet of Maple, WI. Marvin is also survived by his younger sister Sharon Colby of Merrill, WI. Marvin is also survived by his grandchildren; Taylor, Codie, Charlie, Cayden, Corey, Trentyn, Mckenna, Ian, Holly, Hannah, Bridget, Mandy, Kelly, and Bryan. Marvin is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Karin Colby, Elaine Lundburg, Elsa Lundburg, and several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

Marvin has been united in heaven with several loved ones. His son Eric Melvin, his parents Waino and Aitie, his brothers Arnie and Raymond, his sisters Marlene, Arlene, Delores, and Lorraine. His nieces Denice, Char, Lisa and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Mission Covenant Church, 5161 S. County Road P, Poplar, WI, and will continue until the 1:00 PM Memorial Service with Pastor Chuck Ells and Pastor John Arneson officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Memorial Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the caring staff with St. Luke’s Hospice for the kind, compassionate care they provided Marvin and his family.
