Wesley C. Johnson

November 17, 1935 — October 22, 2024

Wesley Carl Johnson, 88, longtime former resident of Lakeside, WI, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024, at Twin Ports Health and Rehabilitation in Superior, with his family by his side. He was born in Duluth, MN on November 17, 1935, the son of Carl and Aina (Hanson) Johnson.

Growing up, Wesley’s family owned and operated their own farm. Farming was in his blood from a young age, and he eventually took over, turning it into a productive dairy farm. He loved working on the farm and kept it well maintained while making improvements when needed. On the farm, he and his family loved to help out the neighbors and always had room at the kitchen table for anyone who wanted a hot meal.

Wesley also spent many years working for Burlington Northern Railway, retiring as a maintenance supervisor, and was the Fire Chief for the Town of Lakeside. Wes also loved to work on his projects over the years. Nothing was too big for him to tackle. He spent endless days helping his kids build their houses. He was very meticulous at making sure everything was level and square and could withstand anything mother nature would send its way. He was not quite as particular when it came to doing any trim work, he would usually leave that for the next person.

In his free time, Wes enjoyed fishing on Lake Superior with his family and friends. He would spend hours on the lake in the Lucky Loon with his fishing partner, Rick Schiff, and most often came home with their limit of fish in the cooler. He also loved doing activities with his family, especially outdoors. Teaching his kids how to downhill ski, snowmobile, and fish were at the top of his list. Another favorite of his was going on family vacations across the country.

Above all, Wes loved spending time with his grandchildren. Whether it was taking them fishing, having them help with projects around the house, or teaching them as many life skills as possible.

Wesley was a wonderful man who will be dearly missed by his beloved wife who he married on January 27, 1962, and celebrated sixty-two wonderful years together, Karen; daughter Lynda Moller (Dave); sons Scott Johnson (Tricia) and Steven Johnson (Tammy); grandchildren Erik Moller, Jared Moller (Melissa), Michael Johnson (Taylor), Jordan Strasser (Matt), Jeremy Johnson, Hannah Hursh (Billy), Cassandra Schuman (Michael), Nathaniel Fuller (Abby), and Carsen Johnson; great-grandchildren Kyla Moller, Easton, Emersyn, and Everett Hursh, and Auden and Adler Schuman.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Pat Johnson.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at Twin Ports for the excellent care they provided Wes. And a thank you to his special friend Watty.
