Wilfred J. "Bill" Laverdiere

Wilfred “Bill” J. Laverdiere, 88, formerly of Superior, died Friday, April 29, 2011 in Mesa, AZ.

He was born on May 11, 1922 in Superior to Joseph and Flora (Desautels) Laverdiere.

Bill graduated from high school and attended St. Joseph’s College in Westmont, IL.

He then went on to graduate in 1949 from Duluth Business University with a degree in Business Administration.

Bill served his country in the United States Marine Corp where he served on a special mission in the South Pacific during World War II.

Bill was general manager for Kapus-Erickson for many years and loved his work.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus; the Moose Lodge, the Elks Lodge and the National Marine Corp League.

Bill is survived by two sons, Steve (Mary) Laverdiere, Superior, Brian (Polly Anderson) Laverdiere, Superior; two daughters, Louise Laverdiere, Mesa, AZ, Ellen (Richmond) Frielund, Appleton, WI; five grandchildren, Shannon (Jason) Fawley, Owatonna, MN, Amy (Donald) Culshaw, Owatonna, MN, Arthur (Katie) Frielund, Appleton, WI, Alexa Laverdiere, Superior, Jamie (Jamey) Nord, Superior; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita (Lou) Marshall, Duluth, Rose Colpaert, Duluth; one brother-in-law, Michael (Barbara) Donovan, California; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia “Pat”; his parents; three brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, on Friday, May 13, 2011 with Monsignor Philip Heslin, as celebrant.

Inurnment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Superior where military honors will be accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.
