William R. Bates

William R. “Bill” Bates, 82, resident of Superior, WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Centennial Home in Superior. He was born in Detroit, MI on October 7, 1942, the son of William and Helen (Holmstrom) Bates.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie Sando and together they raised two beautiful children, Taras and Kristina.

Bill worked as a banker for many years at NBC Bank in Superior. He was also a longtime member of the local Chamber of Commerce.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He also enjoyed playing golf and was an avid bowler. But above all, Bill loved being with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. He will be forever loved and missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie; son Taras Bates, Altus, OK; daughter Kristina (Kevin) Madsen, Superior, WI; and his grandchildren Haley Zabala-Bates, Anchorage, AK, and Marcus and Nora Madsen, both of Superior.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Per Bill’s wishes, no public services will be held.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Bill’s name to Spartan Manufacturing program at Superior High School.
