William "Bill" N. Benson

William “Bill” N. Benson, 88, longtime Superior area resident, died Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN, surrounded by family. He was born in Lacrosse, WI, November 18, 1929, the only child of Herman N. and Elizabeth E. (Munnings) Benson.

Bill served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He married, Dorothy Johnson, March 21, 1953 and they recently celebrated sixty-five years of marriage before his passing.

Bill graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and worked for several agriculture companies in southern Minnesota. Later, he became a realtor and broker, owning Superior Agency for many years. Bill retired in 2009 having worked for over fifty years in sales. He was a member of Superior Realtor’s Association, the Optimist Club, Pilgrim Lutheran church and a life member of UW Madison Alumni association. Bill was an avid newspaper reader and enjoyed spending family time at his cabin on Lake Nebagamon, WI, where he also had served on the Association Board.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters, Anne (Paul) Missinne, Spooner, WI, Linda (Paul) Parish, Webster, WI, and Stephanie (Brian) Vik, Eden Prairie, MN; six grandchildren, Adrienne, Lauren, Vince, Eric, Christina, and Ashley; eight great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Pastor Will Mowchan, officiating.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Thomas F. Stein VFW #1091 and the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 combined Color Guard at the church

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, in Superior.
